Why Slowing Down Could Be the Best Thing You Ever Do for Your Skin

Have you ever noticed how quickly you apply your moisturiser?
It's something I see almost every time I'm doing skincare demonstrations. A beautiful moisturiser goes onto the skin, and within seconds it's being rubbed in as fast as possible.
I always smile and gently say, "Just stop for a second... and breathe."
Most of us are busy. We move from one task to the next without thinking, and our skincare routine becomes just another job to tick off the list.
But what if that one minute each morning and evening became something more?
When we warm a product between our fingertips and gently press and glide it into the skin, we're giving those carefully chosen ingredients the opportunity to settle into the skin as intended, rather than simply moving them around on the surface. It's also a much gentler way to care for your skin barrier, which becomes even more important as our skin changes through midlife.
Think about having a facial at a beautiful day spa. Your therapist doesn't rush. Every movement is slow, intentional and calming. That's because skincare isn't only about the products being used. It's also about how they're applied.
One of the things I love most about formulating natural skincare is the experience it creates. The beautiful aroma of pure essential oils, the feel of nourishing botanical oils and butters, and those quiet moments where you simply stop, breathe and reconnect with yourself.
Your skincare ritual doesn't have to take ten minutes. Even one mindful minute can change the way it feels.
So, before you rush through your routine, try something different.
Warm your moisturiser between your fingertips.
Take one slow breath.
Gently press and glide it into your skin.
Allow yourself one quiet moment before moving on with your day.
Because caring for your skin isn't just about nourishing it.
Sometimes it's also about caring for yourself.
Look out for this week's Formulator Friday
Later this week I'll be sharing a new Formulator Friday over on my Ethical Essence Natural Skincare Facebook page, where I'll demonstrate the difference between being a Skin Polisher and creating a gentle skincare ritual.
I have a feeling many of us don't even realise we're doing it.
If you've ever wondered whether you're getting the very best from your skincare, I think you'll enjoy this one.
So tell me...
Are you a Skin Polisher, or have you mastered the art of slowing down?
